Trafalgar Square

As a popular location for events, celebrations and filming Trafalgar Square has been the backdrop to many great memories of the city. The Square is located directly in front of the National Gallery and offers you a perfect spot to sit down and take a break during a busy day of exploring.

In the centre of the square is Nelsons Column surrounded by four stone lions, which commemorates General Nelson’s victory in 1805 during the battle of Trafalgar. Resist the urge to climb onto the lion statues, as the police won’t find it as amusing. The square is popular with many of London’s pigeons so make sure you keep hold of your food!

You can access the area for free 24 hours a day, and it can be reached getting off at Charing Cross station via the Bakerloo Line and the Northern Line. You can also walk to the square from other attractions in the city such as Covent Garden and Leicester Square
