Wellcome Collection

The Wellcome Collection curates an exploration of the connection between medicine, life and art. Through the establishment of the Wellcome Foundation by Sir Henry Wellcome in 1936, the free museum invites visitors to embark on a journey to experience science through arts and culture.

The exhibition space was recently doubled to cater for more and more visitors due to popularity. Medicine Now, an exhibit with a focus on the body, genomes, obesity and living with medical science; and Medicine Man, a cross section display of interesting objects from Sir Henry’s personal collection, count among the permanent exhibits. Recent temporary exhibitions included displays of forensic medicine and works by the Institute of Sexology.

On the day of your visit, be sure to check the in-house announcements regarding possible events in the reading room. There could be poetry readings, discussions, painting, or an expert giving a speech. These informal events can happen anytime in the reading room, and you are encouraged to interact with the people there. Maybe you will end up creating your own events with like-minded new friends.

The galleries are open from 10:00 to 18:00 during the week, except for Mondays (closed) and Wednesday (closing time extended to 22:00). You can find out more here.
The Wellcome Foundation is less than 15 minutes from Regent’s Park on foot. To get there by tube, please go to Euston Square Station via Circle, Metropolitan or Hammersmith & City line. Or make use of the museum’s journey planner.
